How to Make a Decoction
Decoctions are simmered because typically roots, seeds, and bark do not liberate their virtues easily unless they are boiled or extracted via alcohol/glycerin/or acetates. Typical dose is 1 heaping teaspoon of herb, 1 cup cold water and bring to a slow simmer with a lid on the pot. Simmer (not boil) for 20 minutes. Tae off the heat and let sit for 3-4 hours or even for overnight to steep more. Strain and place back on the stove and add fresh water to resume tea to 1 Liter and ie. Heat. You may add several tablespoons of honey and dissolve fully. Then take off heat. Typical decoction dose is 3 ounces 4 times daily unless otherwise instructed.
